If it's true that for the audience, theater starts with the coat rack, then for me, a play starts with the curtain. In my theater productions, I've tried, wherever possible, to create a unique curtain for each play. It's like the cover of a book that you see before opening the first page and getting immersed in the story. The most interesting thing is that when a performance is "written off" and the sets are dismantled or discarded, the curtain remains. I've occasionally come across my curtains from performances that disappeared into oblivion many years ago...
